6/13/2019 1:00 PM - 2:15 PM

Vocational evaluators use occupational information every day in their practice to help clients with disabilities identify jobs and careers. The purpose of this workshop is to examine how two existing databases, The Dictionary of Occupational Titles (DOT) and the Occupational Network Online (O*Net), and one emerging database, Occupational Requirements Survey (ORS), are used to identify and analyze jobs and careers. Using case studies, participants will learn how to apply the worker characteristics from the DOT, the career exploration features of the O*Net, and the newly developed physical demands; environmental conditions; education, training, and experience; and cognitive and mental requirements from the ORS. Participants will learn to:

  1. Compare and contrast the DOT, O*Net, and ORS.
  2. Recognize an appropriate time during the evaluation process to utilize each database.
  3. Apply the DOT worker characteristics
  4. Choose filters and other tools available in the O*Net
  5. Integrate the job related information from the ORS.
