CHIRP Project Wins National Award
The CHIRP project has been awarded the RSA
Commissioner’s Award for Excellence in Rehabilitation Education
and Training!
The Commissioner’s Award recognizes truly superior professionals
and programs that support the state-federal vocational
rehabilitation (VR) program. It honors excellence among state
agency, educational and federal leaders. It is an opportunity to
share innovative and creative efforts with colleagues. The Award
for Excellence In Rehabilitation Education and Training was
presented during the awards luncheon at the National
Rehabilitation Education Conference, November 5-7, 2008 at the
Key Bridge Marriott in Arlington, VA . A joint NCRE-CSAVR-RSA
review panel selected the Commissioner Award recipients. CHIRP
received the award in the Continuing Education Category.
To be considered for the award, nominees must be a current or
past RSA training grantee, have demonstrated an innovative
training program, and have demonstrated a special emphasis on
partnering with the vocational rehabilitation program or the
public vocational rehabilitation community.
Congratulations to all of you for making the CHIRP program a
spectacular success! I believe the reason the CHIRP program was
chosen is the outcomes that the different CHIRP groups have
produced. It is hard to argue with students getting summer jobs,
transportation initiatives, dynamic outreach programs, not to
mention the improved relationships and collaboration between IL
and VR that all of the groups have reported.
Special thanks to all of you who wrote letters supporting our
nomination. Megan Ibbotson, who was in charge of the
competition, commented to me several times about the strong
support the project received. And she doesn’t even know the half
of it!
You all rock! Or, as my partner in crime, Julie Ballinger put
it, “We work with really stellar people!”
Thanks again for all of the work you do and for your commitment
to helping young people with disabilities succeed. You make us
look good.
CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN!
